I am a software engineer by training, but my passion is reading and writing speculative fiction. I also produce electronica music under the name Nullwave.
I've always enjoyed creative writing and poetry. As a reader, my absolute favorite genres are sci-fi and fantasy, so it makes sense to start my novel writing in that space. My dream is to become a legitimate speculative fiction writer and share my stories with as many people as I can. In a world deluged by science fiction and fantasy books this will be a challenge, but I'm looking forward to it.
Ideas come from everywhere. Other media, a passing comment, idle day-dreaming, actual dreams, etc. The trick is to polish and grow the idea, bit-by-bit. I start with the snowflake method of building out an idea from a single sentence to several paragraphs. Then I shift to a structural outline, setting my goals for each part of the story. I'll then do a scene outline that fills out that structure. Finally, I'll start writing within those scenes. Being mindful to not let myself be boxed in by my own outline.
